Africa is a continent struggling against an increasing health care crisis, burdened by HIV/AIDS, and many other emerging infectious diseases. Famine and war add to the health crisis, as well as crumbling health care systems unable to meet the ever-rising needs of sick and injured people. Over the past two decades the situation has become increasingly difficult, especially for African physicians working in over-burdened hospitals and clinics. Most have had no additional medical training or education since graduating from medical school. Medical knowledge is advancing at great speed, and African doctors and the populations they serve are not benefiting from this new knowledge.

Doctors on Call for Service (DOCS) was founded in 1994 to bridge the medical education gap that exists for African national physicians by allowing them to pursue post-graduate training, education, and research without leaving Africa. DOCS provides hope and encouragement to hundreds of physicians working diligently in rural and remote hospitals to meet the health needs of thousands of people in their service area. As a result of the medical training and education they receive with DOCS Residency program, these physicians will be at the forefront of positive and lasting improvements to the public health climate, and more importantly, towards better health care for African people.

You can help thousands of African people desperately in need of quality health care by joining with DOCS by volunteering your time and expertise as a medical faculty team member, providing financial support for our medical education programs, and through your prayers.

We need you!

Peace,
G. Paul Groen, M.D.
