DOCS’ medical education programs are far-reaching and can help many thousands of people who are desperately in need of adequate health care. Through DOCS, physicians obtain the training and skills to provide the leadership necessary to help make lasting improvements to public health. The Learning Center in Goma serves an area where the physician to patient ratio is greater than one to 75,000 people. This compared to that of the United States where the physician to patient ratio is one physician to 358 people. Each physician who receives this specialty training can positively impact the health and lives of close to 75,000 people. DOCS graduates will be able to share their acquired skills and knowledge with other physicians in their community and country, thus multiplying the impact of their training and education, for the benefit of many more people. DOCS first graduate of the Master’s Degree in Family Medicine program, Dr. Prosper Lutala, now serves as DOCS’ Director of the Residency Program. Dr. Lutala is leading and mentoring promising young physicians who will be the future leaders of East African health care. DOCS medical training has helped to bring about positive improvements to health indicators within the area of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Data is continuously being collected from health centers throughout the Goma health zone for analysis and further research. |
